Question:

Conditions for Drinking Water?

I'm in the process of eliminating soda from my diet completely, so as an alternative, and because of the extreme heat of the summer, I've substituted my daily dose of high fructose corn syrup with good old H2O.

What's weird for me, though, is that unless the water has no flavor AND is icy-cold, I can't and won't drink it. It's not an ice thing, because if I refrigerate the water, it's fine, but it has to be -cold-.

Do any of you have the same or any other conditions or quirks when it comes to drinking water? I feel so weird! Oh, and if I have a straw, I'll drink more water than if I had to drink it straight out of the glass.

  1. I LOVE plain old water, but prefer it not to be ice cold.  I want to be able to take a big swig without the brain freeze...

I'm lucky that I live in a city that has amazingly good tasting water (well, the best flavour a non-flavor beverage can have).

  2. I can only drink purified water. I don't even trust those basic little filters like Pur and Britta. It also must be room temperature. I cannot eat or drink anything cold.

  3. TAP WATER HAS A CERTAIN AMOUNT OF CHLORINE  AND OTHER ELEMENTS SOME PLACES ARE SOFT AND SOME ARE HARD,IT ALSO HAS FLUORIDE, BOTTLED WATER IS A BIT GENTLE BUT THE BETTER WATER IS WELL WATER IT HAS NOT BEEN TAMPERED WITH.

  4. I never drink tea, rarely coffee but loads of water straight from the tap into bottles and in the fridge for at least 24 hours.  I have never had a spot on my face and put it down to my water diet......................

  5. I love just plain H20 Room temperature.  But I know what you mean switching to water from another beverage is a hard substitution.  Add some fruit to it- watermellon is a fun one.

  6. Water has many flavors depending on how it is processed in a water system and on the various sources. Our prejudices about such taste may originate in childhood, when most drinking water was purer than now. Icy cold water has the least perciptible taste, and for the hot summers, is most refreshing. When drinking with a straw you get no air mixed in, so you can more easily drink more.  To remove chlorine from water you can just let it stand in an open vessel for 24 hours and all of the chlorine will evaporate. You must do this for adding water to a fish aquarium.

If you keep drinking water like this instead of fructose solution, pretty soon you should be feeling very healthy instead of just weird. But like they say in Texas: "Keep Austin Weird".
