Conditions in favour of Diplomat in 21st August At Sligo Handicap
Trained by D. K. Weld, Diplomat becomes a very dangerous runner in extreme conditions and with soft to heavy going at Sligo, the 3-year-old should do well in the 21st August At Sligo Handicap, to be held on Wednesday, August 08, 2012.
The son of Kitten´s Joy started off this season with a classy act. At the end of March, he was runner-up behind Croi An Or in the Jog For Jockeys 29th July 3yo (C & G) Median Auction Maiden at Limerick.
After an excellent performance, he lost his direction, when completing the order of finish at Fairyhouse in June. However, a terrible defeat did not make an impact on his confidence, as he displayed a wonderful show last time out.
The audience at Galway saw him taking the top prize after a very close contest. In the hands of Pat Smullen, the 4-1 chance upset the 7-2 favourite, Our Conor, by a nose in the Tote Trifecta Rollover Handicap.
After a brilliant success, the Kenneth L. Ramsey-owned is brimming with confidence, and there is no reason why he should not have a big run today. Seven runners will try to stop Diplomat from bagging the first prize worth €8,970. The 1m2f meeting is scheduled
to begin at 20:40 GMT.
Headford Lady seems to be the biggest threat to Diplomat. The 7-year-old broke the shackles at the end of last month, when finishing second to Sindjara in the Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Fillies Handicap at Down Royal.
James Halpin’s trainee showed a few below par performances earlier this season, but an improved show would have boosted up her confidence to some extent. Thus, one should not ignore her chances for the top place. Long Journey Home has a number of things
in favour, including the going. So, John M. Oxx’s trainee should not be ignored.
Headford Lady is not one of the chief protagonists, but unlikely to be far away. She is in good position to make things tricky for Diplomat, who will be very tough to beat. We wish the best of luck to all the runners.
