I just lost my uncle this morning and my parents plan on sending flowers, what other kinds of gifts do you send when you loose a loved one? I don't want to send anything perishable as i live in south carolina and my family lives in kentucky.

  1. Firstly, my condolences on the loss of your uncle.

Secondly- did your uncle have any favorite charities? You can donate a sum in his name.

Thirdly-- fruit can be sent just like flowers.  Tell the florist how much you are willing to spend and they fill the order accordingly.  Your local florist will call a florist in your uncle's town and send the fruit to the family. It will be fresh and probably very welcome.

  2. well, if your family is Christian, you could send a framed scripture verse or such.. even if they are not Christian and you are, i would send something like that.  If not, you could send a coffee and/or tea gift basket.

  3. sorry to hear about your loss but a nice note or card would be plenty.  if you lived in the same town, the community sometimes pitches in to provide cooked meals to make things easier during the wake and funeral period.
