Confidence for boxing.?

I fight MMA style and my main problem is boxing. I don't feel comfortable trading punches. I can take a puch and really give one, but I don't feel confident. I usually kick and go for ground and pound and jiu-jitsu.

What can or should I do to help with the boxing?

  1. Remember that boxing is known as the sweet science.  There's a reason for that.  Boxing isn't just throwing punches. If you actually learned to box you would be very confident. Practice the jab (to keep them at bay)

Practice timely upper cuts ( for the rush)

And don't be affraid to give a straight shin kick or knee on the rush either.

Good luck and remember keep it in the ring!

    Mike P...Good answer!

  2. Train more boxing. Go to a proper boxing gym and learn it there. The more practise you get, the more you improve. The more you improve, the greater your confidence.

I still see lots of guys in mma, even at the UFC, who have mediocre stand up and/or they are afraid to get hit. I can think of several jiu jitsu guys that spring to mind. I wouldn't even consider competing at that level without getting some serious full contact striking experience under my belt.

  3. what I'll do go to a local boxing club and do some boxing with some of the guys there, put some music on go for it get rocky sound track that might help

  4. It's not to complex an approach that you should take.  Start training way more striking.  Confidence comes from repetition and ease of motion.  Try joining a boxing club and focus just on that part of your game.  Of course if you're more into the ground and pound you could always focus way more on take downs and ground and pound, but its a good idea to be versatile.

  5. If you train in jiu jitsu then go for the ground. The ground and pound is also safer. I mean common you have better chance to submit them and hurt them.

If there a striker you just put yourself at a disadvantage standing up.

  6. Just tell yourslef that you can dominate the ring.

Know that if you do get stuck, Jiujitsu can get you out of it.

take a boxing class, you can use that to fight.

Kicks are more powerful anyway (granted, punches are way more common)
