Confident Glenn ‘Boyet’ Donaire lands in Mexico – Boxing News
WBC Latin flyweight champion Glenn ‘Boyet’ Donaire landed in Mexico City today ahead of his bout against the Mexican two-time world title challenger Omar Salado. Donaire arrived in Mexico today with his trainer/father Nonito Donaire, his promoter Tuto Zabala
and his manager Vinny Scolpino. The bout will be held on March 16 at the Auditorio Plaza Condesa in Mexico City as part of All Star Boxing’s and Telemundo Network show for Friday. Donaire’s WBC Latin super flyweight title on the line.
Zabala, promoter for Donaire, on Donaire’s condition remarked, “Donaire is in great shape, hungry, he trained with his father at high altitude and I feel very confident with a win over Salado to get him his world title shot in the near future.”
Not only his promoter, even Glenn himself is confident that he can win the fight. Glenn Donaire is the elder brother of the highly popular Filipino fighter Nonito ‘The Filipino Flash’ Donaire. According to a report by the WBC, Donaire looks confident and
ready for the fight and he is in great shape.
Currently, Glenn Donaire holds 18 wins, 4 losses and 1 tie in his portfolio, along with 10 knockouts. On the other hand, Salado will come to the ring with 24 wins, 4 losses and 2 ties, along with 15 knockouts.
His promoter further added that Donaire has been training hard for the bout with his father/trainer. If Donaire wins this fight, he will be able to score a world title shot sometime soon. Therefore, it is important for Donaire to give his best in this bout.
This bout will be Donaire’s comeback bout after a gap of nearly four years. His last fight was for the IBF light flyweight title, which he lost via unanimous decision to Ulises Solis on July 12, 2008. On the other hand, Salado is coming to the ring with
a recent third round TKO victory with him over Ramon Pena last year on February 18.
Both the fighters are more or less of the same age and stature, which makes this bout highly interesting. It is a career ‘make or break’ fight for Glenn Donaire, therefore he needs to grab the victory at any cost.
