Confident Jamie Cope targeting titles and a push-up in rankings – Snooker news
The Grand Prix and China Open runner-up Jamie Cope has set his eyes upon titles and rankings in the upcoming 2011-12 season.
Though the 25-year-old Cope reached the semi-finals of both Shanghai Masters and Ladbrokes Mobile Masters tournaments last season, he has not yet won any major tournament.
However, this season the Longton’s player is confident that he will win a major title for himself. He told the media he is excited to play in tournaments as he knows he can do really well in them.
Cope, who is currently ranked 15 in the world rankings, added apart from the titles, his focus would be to secure his place in the top 16.
While speaking on his inclusion, he said, “Winning a title is my main goal for this season. I'm really excited about going to more tournaments and playing for a lot of prize money. I battled through last season and got to a couple of semi-finals. It was
good to finish in the top 16 and I want to push myself higher up the rankings.”
Meanwhile Cope, who for his attacking play is famously known as a Shotgun, also revealed why he could not perform well last season. He said he was suffering from an inherited disease called Essential Tremor. Therefore, he was unable to focus on the game
properly and this thing shuttered his confidence.
Cope stated he himself was unaware of the disease but when the doctor confirmed him in a medical test that his father also had it, he came to know about it.
Cope remarked, “It definitely cost me a lot of matches - I remember playing Joe Perry in Germany and I just couldn't keep still. It was frustrating and difficult for me to go to tournaments knowing that I was going to suffer with it. It really dented my
confidence.”
Let’s see whether Cope is really able to do well this season or not.
