Confident Washington Redskins looking to destroy St. Louis Rams – NFL Preview
Just in the first game of the 2012 season, Washington Redskins handed an upset defeat to the New Orleans Saints, ringing alarm bells for all the teams around the National Football League (NFL).
Led by the second overall pick of this year’s draft quarterback Robert Griffin III (RG3), Redskins offence outscored Saints, who had reached the playoffs last season.
After the first victory, Redskins are now going to face St. Louis Rams on Sunday, September 16, 2012, for Week 2 game at Edward Jones Dome.
Coming off a 2-14 season, Rams made a reasonably well start to their 2012 season campaign. Although they lost against Detroit Lions, Rams showed some good plays as their quarterback Sam Bradford looked in good touch while the defence was also better.
This shows that their new coach Jeff Fisher is certainly making an impression, but the Rams still have a long way to cover. Even six or seven victories this season will be a considerable achievement for Rams, but they are playing every game, hoping to win
it and that is what Fisher wants from his players.
Bradford is hoping to further improve on his performance and hopes to record even better numbers against Redskins. He said:
"I expect myself to play at a high level. I expect myself to be very consistent week in and week out. I don’t think anyone from the outside or anyone in our organization can put more pressure on myself than I already do.”
The Rams defence faces an even daunting task in Week 2 as it will have to stop RG3 from making good plays, something that he easily did against Saints.
Although Rams had a good look at RG3 during preseason and the season opener, Fisher is of the view that the rookie quarterback is going to come up with a new set of tactics to face Rams. Fisher said of RG3:
“He’s going to change things up week to week, so you really don’t know what to expect. You know that he’s going to be creative and you’re going to be forced to adjust.”
Fisher has also said that the Rams need to do some extra preparation to tackle the rookie. The Rams head coach said:
“He extended plays, made throws and clearly caught the Saints a little bit off guard. We’ve got our hands full, no doubt. He’s an extra dimension.”
Interestingly, Rams finished at the bottom of the National Football Conference (NFC) West last season while Redskins got the same slot in the NFC East.
Both teams are hoping to showcase better performance this year and register more victories than last season. As they face each other, the Rams need to contain RG3. If they are able to do so they can win the game otherwise it will be difficult for them to
overcome the visitors.
