1) Estimate the pressure exerted on a floor by

a) one pointed chair leg (60kg on all 4 legs) of area =0.02cm²

b) 1500kg elephant standing on 1 foor (area = 800cm²)

2) The two feet of a 60kg person cover an area of 500cm²

a) Determine the pressure exerted by two feet on the ground

b) If the person stands on one foot, what is the pressure under the foot?

3) Convert 1187kgf/cm² into pascal (standard notation)

My uncertain solutions

1a) taking gravity to be 10m/s². I get the weight (force) to be 150N - then the area = 0.02cm² = 0.000002m²

b) Same for 1a

2a)..

  1. 1(a).

    Force = 150 N.

    Pressure = force / area

    = 150 / [ 2 * 10^(- 4) ]

    = 7.50 * 10^5 Pa.

    1(b).

    1500 * 10 / (8 * 10^(- 2))

    = 1.88 * 10^5 Pa.

    2.

    60 * 10 / [ 5 * 10^(- 2) ] Pa

    and so on.
