How does the decade of the 1920's refect the continuation of the urban-rurual and black and white conflict in America. Did the decade hold the same promise for rural Americans that id did for urban and suburban dwellers, did it hold the same promise for blacks that it did whites? In addition did the gap between race and social mobility narrow or widen during the 1920's? I need reliable websites and if possible online books!

  2. You should read Howard Zinn's "A People's History of the United States".

  3. 1920 was the first census in which rural fell below 50%. During the teens and twentys, large numbers of Southern blacks (and whites) moved to Northern cities from farms. This caused a lot of conflict and some riots, as people saw their neighborhoods changing, allowing the KKK to reach record membership levels as they recruited reactionaries. There was more promise for urban than rural dwellers. There was more promise for whites than blacks, but blacks in the North were still better off for having moved from the perpetual indebtedness of sharecropping in the South.
