Conflicting reports surface of Bayern Munich's interest in Arsenal striker Nicklas Bendtner
It may come down to who has more clout, but Bayern Munich sporting director
Christian Nerlinger and club advisor Franz Beckenbauer have recently offered conflicting viewpoints regarding the club's interest in signing Arsenal striker Nicklas Bendtner.
According to the Daily Mirror Beckenbauer, when asked about the club's recent rumored link to the 22-year-old Dane, was quoted as saying,
"Yes, he is among some players, who have done very well – both for Denmark and for his club, and who has got the class and the potential to play in a club like Bayern Munich, where we already have a lot of class players."
Certainly, for Beckenbauer, the interest is there, but Nerlinger seems prepared to fight it out with things the way they are.
"We are not going to buy new strikers during the winter transfer window because we want to get out of our difficult situation with the staff we have," he told
TZ recently.
The difficult situation which Nerlinger is referring to is the fact that his club currently sit in sixth place with 19 points from 12 matches and have struggled to get goals.
Although Mario Gomez has been effective up front for the club, several of the team's key strikers have been absent due to various injuries and it stands to reason that Munich could be in search of some reinforcements.
Despite their struggles in the German Bundesliga, Munich have done exceedingly well in the UEFA's Champions League winning all four of the group stage matches they've played. Having already earned qualification to the next round, Munich might need
a few more healthy bodies if they plan to handle the demands of two competitions.
Bendtner seems to be a likely candidate as he has been out of favor at Arsenal playing in only four league matches and scoring a single goal so far this season. Bendtner has fallen in the team's pecking order since the emergence of Moroccan-born striker
Marouane Chamakh.
