I work for an insurance services. The office is just me and my boss. My boss wants to sell her business she stated in an email to another broker she wants to sell by June 1st. I found out because I happen to stumble on an email to the broker she told. I found out about March. She is having some guys come in to view the business and she asked me to work the morning but take the afternoon off. Now she has no idea I know what is going on. Should I confront her and say "hey I know whats going on. Please be honest here what is going to happen? Should I be prepared to find another job? I think it would be nice if she gave me a heads up because it would be wrong if she didnt. Please let me know she will be in the office in a few and I want to talk to her about it.

  1. It is her business period. You seeing her plans to sell the business was by accident?

How could you just stumble upon an email that was meant for her only.

I would say to her i had received a phone call the other day that you where selling your business. Should i start looking for another position? Or would the new owners keep me on. Since it is a one employee type of operation i`m betting that you will be hitting the pavement.

Take the day that she is giving you to look for another job.

  2. There is to guarantee the guy is going to buy the business, and if he does he might need to keep you as a secretary.  She will tell you when she feels you need to know.  It won't change anything if you tell her you know.

  3. This is a tight spot but I really can't see the huge down fall

to letting her know that you know. Either way you will

probably be out of a job. I would be very profesional and

ask what the transtion plan would be. Hey the new person may need you for an interim (maybe longer term)

But at this point what do you really have to loose.

VERY important do not go down the wrong road of

saying " I wish you would have told me" keep this positive

and say you understand that due to "business" you couldn't

    discuss this with me.

Remember, you want a letter of recommendation from her.

You want her to keep you on as long as possible giving

you an opportunity to look else where and possibly use

her Network to find another job.

So you should play this really cool but put it on the table so you can make some plans for yourself.

    That's what I would do.

    Good Luck

  4. Do you have a good relationship with her? If so, I see no reason not to be up front with her.

Protect yourself-start putting out feelers for a new job....

  5. A smart person would find another job ASAP just in case your boss is not planning to sell you with the business.

  6. That is a tough one, however if she is selling the business, she should give you a 30 day notice at the very least.  However if that is not the case, you don't want to get in trouble for potential snooping either.  Me personally, I would ask her, but indicating I was not snooping, I happened upon the information.  Good luck

  7. I would find another job fast. If she can't give you the common courtesy of letting you know that you may be without a job soon...I would not give her the common courtesy of hanging around till the end. She will probably do what is best for the business...not what is fair to you.

  8. No, don't confront your boss.  What's the point in asking her a question you already know the answer to?

Start putting your resume out on the street.    Even if you decide to go back to school, you need to get your resume out there.  It's much easier to find new employment, when you're currently employed.
