Confronting parents about smoking?

i just found an ashtray full of ciggarrette butttts that i think are my moms and i dont know how to confront her

first ask her if its hers.  if it is ask her to stop and that u love her and dont want her to die.

You don't. It isn't your business. If she is smoking, she may have chosen to hide it from you to protect you from a bad influence. There is certainly no call for "confrontation" here, which implies that the child somehow knows better than the adult, a patently ridiculous assumption.

You can confront her with all of the incriminating evidence you want, but she'll likely deny that she's responsible for them.

I take it that your mom is a closet smoker, or that she has somehow promised everyone in the family that she will quit, or has quit.

Your mom is probably already feeling pretty guilty, & ashamed of herself for having such a struggle with her addiction.

Confronting her will only increase her level of shame, & perhaps invoke an angry reaction.

Instead of confronting her, or accusing her, I suggest that you simply tell her about how you feel about the thought of her smoking again.

Keep your side of the conversation about you, & your feelings of frustration, & fear, & whatever else you are feeling. That way she will hear less of what she has already expected you might say if you caught her, & a little more about how much you care about her health & well being, & how much you need her to live a full life for her children.

She is the parent, you are the child. You have no business confronting her about anything. If my older sister and I ever did that to my father. We got the belt. We respected our parents. You better start doing so.
