May not make sense to some people but I understand what they are, sort of, but do not exactly know how they work...I have a wireless router, if I have EDGE or HSDPA on my phone, can I connect through my router for free? Will the speed be any different? Hows does it work?

If not, what do I need on my phone for it to be able to work with the router?

  1. You need a specialized "cellular router" to do it right.

And the cellular router you get, has to have support for your specific carrier and brand/model of cell phone.

    Check out this compatibility chart:

  2. hi Chintan,

u seem to be realy confused..HSDPA and EDGE are mobile technologies and in simple terms define your speed of internet. both of the above features are mobile service provider specific so if your provider has edge then u will be able to surf on edge speed about 236 kbps max and hsdpa the latest speeds are 7.2 mbps but again on provider specific. dont wory in india only EDGE is there as of now. what u need is a phone with WI-FI to surf internet conecting to ur router. I have sone Eric P990i which has wifi. the speed will be depending on how many ppl are using the wifi connection at same time and how near or far u are.maximum is 100 meters from router..u can connect it for free from ur mobile but it will be using ur internet connection for which u must be payin..some of wifi enabled fones are se p990i, se p1i, htc touch, nokia n95, se w960i,some of the imates...hope i have been of help...take care...bye
