Question:

Confused about BBT and fertility charting. Why do I have all the ovulatory signs but negative OPK's?

I have been charting the past month, and I am now seeing abundant egg-white cervical mucus but my OPK is negative. Is this normal, and does anyone know how effective the OPK tesets are?

Thanks.

  1. I would say that if you see egg-white CM you are close to ovulation...so start getting busy. You may want to purchase some extra OPK's (they are much cheaper online and work just as good) and test more than once per day to see if you can catch the surge.

  2. My advice, forget about the opk test and go by what your body is telling you. Even if your not about to O, wouldn't you rather be safe then sorry.  Wish you all the best and hopefully August will be known as "Our Month"  keep those fingers crossed.

  3. I'm doing OPK's this month as well. I'm doing 2 different kinds. The rite-aid brand & internet cheapies. On CD 15 I got a close to positive. But it was a negative. Every since then I'm having loots of EWCM & my OPK's are getting lighter. Doesn't make any sense to me either.

The only thing is you might get your surge pretty soon. Sometimes women have EWCM days before they ovualte!!

Good luck 2 both of us!!

  4. I usually have to test twice a day to make sure I catch my surge because it is so short.  Last month I got my positive opk at 9:30am (not my first morning urine) and by 4:00pm test time it was gone.  Just make sure your BDing at least every other day while you notice the EWCM, because your probably about to ovulate.

  5. you might want to call the number on the box and see if it's possible that you got a faulty pack

  6. So far in 3 cycles I haven't been able to get a positive OPK (although I'm trying again this cycle and they seem to be getting darker so maybe it'll happen).  Once cycle ovulation was confirmed by ultra sound and temp charting and I still didn't see positive OPK's.  So I'm not sure why it would happen but it's possible you are ovulating without having a OPK+.  Good luck!!!

  7. Sometimes EWCM can show up before you ovulate.  It is not uncommon for women in their 20s to get ewcm 4-5 days before ovulation and since you don't get a +opk until 24-48 before ovulation  you may not have had your surge yet.  EWCM is what lets sperm hang around until the egg shows up.

Another reason is that you could have an annovulatory cycle -  but lets keep our fingers crossed that this isn't happening.  SOmetimes your body will prepare for ovulation, but not quite get there -  hence EWCM and no +opk.

The third reason is that is is possible to have a very short surge and  you could miss the +opk if you are only testing once per day.  I am currently where you are right now.  lots of EWCM no + opk.  I am going to start testing twice per day just to make sure I don't miss anything. -  although it can get pricey i feel it is worth it at the moment
