Most people think that you squeeze to go and squeeze with your legs to go. Well I have been riding a different horse latley and hes more advanced so i have to like squeeze with my hands and legs to get him round and working from his hind end and that makes sense but hor collection or a down transistion i dont get it cuz i will squeeze with my hands and give a little leg when i feel him getting flat in attempt to get him to do an active down transistion but he thinks half halt and how to i differentiate between telling him collect and to do a half halt

  1. With collection you close your fingers, when half halting RELAX your seat, and slightly pull back, but mostly think slow, make your butt relax, and take a deep breath and let it out slowly. And ALWAYS keep your leg on, no matter what, when your stopping, backing, cantering, jumping, transitioning down, any time, you always keep leg on. I hope I helped, good luck =D!

  2. With my performance horse when i ask her to collect i bump the outside rein, and release when she drops. This is so when you show the judge dosent see you.

For a half halt to slow down, i sit back and bump with both reins and say easy.

it may take a few times to get it but it does come in handy!

    hope i helped a little!!
