I've been searching for a new job sometime now & i finally have two positions im interested in. Today i went on a interview for a cashier @ a cafe in a law firm pays great, benefits, easy commute etc. Tomorrow i have an interview with a financial institution & i really really want this job badly. The thing is after the interview i wont know if i get the job until after my drug test, finger prints, credit check etc. i know i will pass all of that but they could just not like me and i s***w up in the interview and they choose someone else. The lady from the cashier job told me she would call tomorrow to make decisions. If she calls me do i accept the job? its a cool job but id much rather take the other one if they choose to hire me i just wont know from them until like a week after the interview and i dont wanna turn the cashier job down & then dont get the other job. what would you do in a situation like this?

please help!!

  1. Hmmm..that is a tough one!  All of those things (drug..credit) take awhile so its not possible to just tell the financial place that you have another offer and you need to know asap.  IF you did that, maybe they would be a rush on things.

Write down the pros and cons of each job to make sure you are choosing the one you REALLY like. One sounds like alot of public exposure and could be different than an office job.

If you still can't decide...you could accept the cafe job, tell them you would start in a week, and tell the financial place you need to know within that week if you will be chosen.  Still doesn't seem honest to the first employer, but its an option that could be the best for YOU.

If you are offered the finance job, call the cafe owner as SOON AS POSSIBLE and let them know how sorry you are and that you cannot start.  It happens all the time in the business world!

Good luck and let us know how it works out, k?  :)

  2. i was in your situation about 3 months ago and i went with my gut, take the job that's offered to you, if you get offered the other you can always say, " I have been offered a higher paying position"....that way you have a job no matter what.
