Confused about internet speed packages?

My comcast internet says 6.something MB/S but I've NEVER has a download go that fast! My downloads have never even gone over 1.4MB/S. Why won't they ever even reach that speed. If I get AT&T high speed DSL at 1.5MB/S will there really be ANY speed dfifferance in downloads, will they be as slow as the comcast ads say? I feel like I'm paying WAY too much for comcast ($150 a month!) My average download speed is usually 256KB/S

  1. yes you are paying to much, me verizon DSL 19.99 a month, speed 56 Mbps it work  for me for 4 years

  2. ISPs advertise speeds in bits (b) and browser downloads and P2P transfers show speeds in bytes (B).

8b = 1B so if you had a 6Mb/s (megabits per second) connection that would be 750kBs in a download.

I have Comcast and because of their speed boost I get up to 1.6MBsfor a short period, but it settles in at 750kBs max on longer downloads in bittorrent.

    At&Ts 1.5Mb = 187.5kBs download speed max.

If the $150 includes internet access, basic cable and the cable premium content package, the it is about right as that is what I pay for those combined.
