i'm going through the at&t website looking at phones and i've always thought that the contract price costs more money but when you look at any phone lets say the blackberry pearl http://www.wireless.att.com/cell-phone-service/cell-phone-details/?device=BlackBerry%C2%AE+Pearl+8120&q_sku=sku1250094

The price seems to go down when they add the contract price why is that? it goes down about $100 i thought that it was a typing mistake but all the other phones go like that too can someone tell me why?

  1. They are selling it cheaper than retail price, although on a 2-yr contract you wont really be saving $100 so watch out!

  2. If I'm reading your question right...prices of the handsets themselves go down when you sign on a new contract... It is just a way for them to lock you into signing a 2 year contract since you will the phones cost more than once during the 2 year time.

Sometimes prices fluctuate also based on promotions...i just extended my plan with T-mobile and during the few weeks before doing so, prices were all over the place based on what phones i was looking at.

Best of luck...and hope you get a great phone.

  3. contract phones are always lower in price because you are in contract and therefore paying the company the difference plus much more than what they just discounted you the phone
