Confused about question in Naturalization form?

There's a question in the application that says " how many days have you been outside the United States in the past 5 years?".... I am applying based on marriage, which means I've been in the U.S only 3 years of the past 5 years... how do I answer this question??, do I add the 2 years I haven't been in the country?? Help!!

Your response should be based on the total number of years you have lived in the U.S.  

If you have lived in the U.S. for 3 years, and you have been outside of the US for a total of 10 days, then you list 10 days.  

If you have lived in the U.S. for 5 years, and you have never left, then you would list 0 days.

Etc, etc.

Answer truthfully. Add the two years. Part 7 question c will straighten the whole thing out.
