Which is correct?

1. "The UART usually does not directly generate OR receive the external..."

2. "The UART usually does not directly generate NOR receive the external..."

  1. 2 sentence is a double negative, when u say does not (neg.) and nor (neg.) its incorrect grammer, using does not (neg.) and then or (pos.) it is correct grammer

    just like using neither and nor    completely incorrect has to be

    either and nor!

    The first implies that there is an alternative clause of what it does do with the external.. .whatever it is, e.g.

    The UART does not directly generate or receive the external thingummybob, but rather eats it served with gravy

    The second statement merely suggests that it does neither of those things, and that is all that is being said.
