Confused on my geometry homework? Not asking you to do my work either!?

So I'm in 10th grade geometry and I can't figure out how to solve this one type of question. It shows a figure with line segments and points, then it asks me which is the shortest way to get from point C to segment AB. It's really confusing I have no clue how to solve these. I know this is probably hard to understand but I really need some help. If you could email me I could send you some examples of the questions.

I don't have a math text book (How dumb is that!) and I'm home schooled and I take online classes, so it's hard to talk to my teachers about this stuff.
