Confusion over the Democrats and Palins Daughter...?

Question

So I have a question... how can Obama supporters attack Sarah Palins 17 year old pregnant daughter when Obama was born to an 18 year old single mother?

Does the contempt that the Dems are showing towards Brostol Palin make the Dems hypocritical since they fanatically support a man whose mother was 18 years old and single (meaning pregnant at 17) when she gave birth to him?

Or does it just make them disgusting human beings?

To me, the pregnant daughter issue is not a big deal.  But I believe the point is that Palin has been less than candid, and that McCain hadn't done his homework before making the selection.

Also, regarding the comparison you're trying to make:  It can be said that Palin bore some responsibility for her minor daughter's poor choices.  In contrast, there was no way that Obama, before he even existed, could influence his mother's choices.

Personally, I think this  is  all an unfortunate distraction from Palin's appalling lack of qualifications for national office.

Making the comparison between Obama and Bristol doesn't make much sense.  If you were to make the comparison between Obama and Bristol's child, that would make more sense, since they're both the offspring of unwed mothers.

If Bristol's child was to go on to do significant community service, teach law at U. Chicago, author bipartisan legislation and beat a front runner for the presidential nomination, that would impress a lot of people.  Bristol isn't impressive, and her behavior (skipping school for 5 months, getting knocked up) doesn't speak well to what sort of values Palin instills in her kids.  It's a lot like drinking and drugging among the Bush daughters would call Bush's values -- and claims to family values especially -- into question.

But what I think really calls Sarah Palin's values into question is that she'd throw her daughter under the bus by exposing her to the national media like this, just to shift the pressure of a rumor about whether her Downs baby is hers onto -- her daughter's shoulders.  She should have told McCain, No, I have skeletons in the closet, so don't pick me -- not that they'll cause you to lose, but b/c I want to protect my family.

Democrats don't pander to evangelicals or religious conservatives. If Republicans want to run on a "christian/moral" platform, maybe they should actually set an example.
