I'm 17 weeks and I wnet to the docs today. He did the heart beat and asked when they did an earlier ultra sound if I knew if there was more then one baby in there. I said theres only one that I know of. Why would he ask about an earlier ultra sound? He would give me a reason when I asked why. I have an ulra sound on tues. What do you think?

  1. he may have heard more than one heartbeat and assumed a previous u/s was done to verify.

  2. Well if there are 2 babies....one of them could have been hiding behind the other one in the earlier ultrasound. I didn't have my first ultrasound until 18 weeks. I was going to have one at 20 weeks but the doc moved it up because I was measuring 20 weeks at 18 and was having a small pain on my side. Turns out, there are two babies. I even asked my doctor is there was a chance that there were two since I was started showing farely early....  but it was too hard to try and hear 2 heartbeats with those little machines they use in the office. Good luck. If there are 2 then think of it as a bleesing x 2. i paniced....and now I am soooo happy!

  3. maybe he thought he picked up a second heart beat? maybe he thought he heard a second one, but it was just yours, (ive dealt with nurses/doctors that have made that error)

On tuesday you may find out you are having twins, or you maybe not... good luck

  4. It could be that he heard two heartbeat or an irregular heartbeat.  My cousin only found out that she was having twins after almost 4 months because the twins had the same heartbeat rhythm for the first trimester.  It could be twins or it could be an irregular heartbeat, or it could just be that the doctor couldn't tell the difference between your heartbeat and a baby's (which doesn't say much for your doctor, an adult's heartbeat is MUCH slower then a baby's)

  5. I think you should have asked him why he asked.  Sounds like he thinks he head 2 heart beats.

Twins are great I have twin grand daughters.

    Best of luck.

  6. Oh dear goodness, I have no idea, but I'm thinking of you. I'd flip if I was having more than one child. h**l I flipped just hearing ONE heartbeat.

I wish you the VERY best! I know you don't know me, but will you let me know? I'm sooo curious! :)

I just don't know what I'd ever do if that happened to me.

  7. It sounds like you may be having twins.  Congrats.

  8. maybe he thought there was two but just wants to confirm his suspicion before telling you.  who knows.....you might be a mommy to 2 instead of 1.  Congrats!

  9. i would call the doctor now and ask why, if they think you are having twins, if they know you are having twins, what the reasoning is for scheduling the next ultrasound - that is too long a time to be in the dark and wondering what's going on between now and tuesday - i would call.  just say that you were startled in the office and didn't get to ask the questions you needed to and you really would feel more comfortable being as informed as possible prior to your next appointment.  best of luck and congrats if it's twins!!!
