My daughter is a month old and has been congested since she was a week old. I have taken her to the ER and to the drs on several occasions and they keep telling me that there is nothing that can be done except for me using Little Nose saline drops and an aspirator. I went Friday and the Dr told me she is colic and that I had to switch her to Similac Alimentum and that should clear up her congestion in a few days. It still hasnt. Im wondering if the Air conditioner is contributing to her congestion. I forgot to ask the dr. Does anyone know if it could be? She spits up her milk alot but recently its been clear and mucasy. Is this good that she is getting it up? Its so hot that Im always in the air conditioned room but Im wondering if thats why she is sick... If so, what do I do? Do i have to lower it and if so to what temperature?? Thanks for all your help, Im a first time worried mommy...

  1. I would say the air conditioner may be a big factor in this.  I notice to get stuffy while in air conditioning for too long also.  It can really dry out the sinuses..... which then your body overcompensates and makes you congested.  I would reccomend putting a humidifier in her room while she sleeps..... or you can also try taking her in the bathroom with you while you shower..... both things should help.

  2. For the congestion- get a humidifier or run a hot shower and sit in the bathroom with your daughter.  The steam from either one will loosen things up for her.  Then do the saline drops and aspirator.

You might try putting a blanket or something under her mattress to angle it slightly.  So that her head is elevated a little.  This helped my daughter and niece out immensely when they were newborns.

As for the spitting up- remember that most babies spit up and sometimes there's nothing related to it.  Give the new formula a few days and see how she does on it.  If it continues to be alot ask the dr about reflux.  They have meds you can give her that will help.

  3. i think that the ac might help the congestion, i no what the doctors tell you don't work but running a warm shower getting the bathroom really muggy helped my daughter alittle bit! i switched my daughters formula to simulac lactose free formula, she wasn't lactose intolerant and she still isn't but it produced less gas in the tummy for throwing up and that really helped alittle i am so sorry i know its hard brooke was colic for 7 months and they was really nothing i could do but put her in her vibrating bouncer helped

  4. Do not lay her under any fans. Get a COOL mist humidifier for her room (I suggest the Vick's brand). There really isn't any type of med.'s she can take since she's so young. My daughter went through the same thing and the cool mist humidifier really worked. The Vick's brand the one i bought had a little place where you can put these little tablets of vicks in and you can smell the vick's throughout the room which helped as well.

** Or you can also turn the shower on really hot and close the door and let the room fill with the steam and sit in the bathroom with her for a little while.

  5. The air conditioner can very well be your problem. I know I can't be in air conditioning or I end up with respiratory problems. Talk to your doctor about it.

  6. Use your little sucky thing , and suck out the boogies several times a day. Also add a humifier, in the house, run it 24/7.  The a/c very well may be the problem of her congestion. Also prop her up when you can ... BUT she may have a allergy to something already ... they say at one month they do not develop them, but I think different. Hope she gets better soon!! If not, ask the DR, to see a Ears, Eyes and Throat Dr.

  7. ask the doctor is she could have a little bit of water.  water is usually bad for babies, it can sorta drown them, but i remember when my neighbor was a few months old and she had a cold, she was allowed an ounce or 2 of water a day to help with the cold and congestion.

    good luck!

  8. My son had congestion entirely in his head from five days old till he was 6 months.  His nose never ran but sometimes it was so bad he couldn't nurse because his nose was completely stopped.  Antibiotics and nose drops never made a difference what actually helped, as crazy as it sounds, was a trip to the chiropractor.  He was breathing fine the next day, and other than a couple colds hasn't had a problem in 3 years.  If I hadn't seen it I wouldn't believe it and the congestion corresponded with bringing him home so I was sure it was allergies or air conditioning or something we even took the carpeting out of the two rooms he was in the most.  If nothing else seems to help it's really worth a try it only took a few seconds, one little adjustment in the neck, and $15 and made a world of difference.  Good luck
