Question:

Congrats to the Red Wings?

I guess I have to be the first Penguin fan to do so...

It was a great series, especially the last couple games. Both teams tried hard for the most prized possesion in hockey which is the Stanley Cup. Red Wings won the series fair and square.

Both goalies were fantastic, Penguins had ups and downs as Red Wings always played good. Which is the reason they won the series.

But for a real question... Who do you see as the MVP from both teams in the series.

  1. yep and im glad red wings won. penguins made it this far they did a good job.

  2. Ah, a Pens fan w/ class. I salute the Pens, they fought the good fight when they could have quit after the first 2 games.

Zetterberg for Detroit and Hossa for Pitt. I almost said Fleury, and he was great, but he also let in some questionable goals.

I just wish the Pens fans at the arena could have shown some class.

sgoldperson - I don't know what TV station you were watching, but most of what I heard were boo's when the Wings were parading the cup around.

  3. Yeah, I was rooting for the Pens but Detroit deserved it, they played hard as motherf*ckers, as did the Pens but I think Detroit played a little harder. It was good. Can't wait till next season.

  4. Thank you. I think the Wings deserve it, but the Penguins sure fought hard.

As for MVP, I'd say Fleury for the Pens (he's been absolutely amazing this series) and Zetterberg for the Wings. Surprisingly I agree with the NHL. Osgood was great, but I still think Zetterberg deserves the trophy.

  5. Yes congrats Red Wings.

I'm sure everyone in Detroit is partying in their ghettos right now.

  6. Yeah, I'm happy for the wings..

But I'm still from Pittsburgh and the penguins are still my favorite team.

So let's go penguinsssss next season. :))

  7. They played a great series, no way to deny that. They deserved the applause that SOME ON HERE claimed they wouldn't get in Pittsburgh. Yeah being from the Pittsburgh area I wasn't at all surprised by the reaction.

MVP for the Penguins was clearly Fluery. They were being outplayed, and even though they wouldn't give up he had to keep them in the games.

Honestly can't answer for the Red Wings. They play as such a team and Osgood didn't have to play as good as Fluery. Yes Osgood did a great job, but Detroit played great defense to help him.

  8. Osgood as he saved the Wings from a possible first round loss to the Preds-who I think still had the best shot at knocking the Wings out.

Hard to say about the Penguins though maybe Ryan Malone??  Had his beak broken twice (now he will look like a Penguin-haha) in consecutive games and still played with heart & intensity.

Let the comparisons really begin now between this Penguins team and the Oiler's Dynasty team in the mid 80's.  Both teams lost their first trip to the finals, which I think is good.  It lets you know what it feels like to lose so when you win it is so much sweeter.  Let's see if they can win 3 in 4 years like Gretzky & company did.

  9. Thank you and congrats right back to you. Pens fans should be proud of their team, they showed a tremendous amount of heart and skill and the future for your team should continue to be more greatness. I think this was one of the best series in a long time and hockey needed 2 teams to put on that great of a show. As for the MVP for each team, I am finding it difficult to recognize any one guy but for my Wings I think Zetterberg, Datsyuk, Lidstrom and Osgood deserve a ton of credit. I also think that Draper was underrated and dominant in the faceoff circle and our second pair of D (Kronwall & Stuart) were big. As for the Pens....I am completely impressed by the composer of Fluery for such a young kid. Sid had some dominant moments and will only get better but one guy I felt played the series as hard as anyone was Malone. Tremendous heart and not unlike a young Holmstrom. I dont know the Pens cap situation but hopefully re-signing Hossa will be possible, he was maybe your best forward game in and game out.

I realize it pretty much sucks right now for Pens fans but as a Wings fan I applaud the effort and skill and they remind me a bit of the '96 Wings.....they werent quite ready but they sure were in '97. Great series, hockey needed this after some of Bettmans decisions. Best of luck to the Pens and their fans in the future!

And most important personally....Congrats to my '08 Stanley Cup Winning Detroit Red Wings!!!!

  10. by far Marc-Andre Fleury and Listrom as the MVP of both teams....i was routing for the pens but hey it was a good game...NEXT YEAR BABY!

LOL SCOTTY BOWEMEN ALMOST DROPPED THE CUP LOL

  11. Thanks for showing class.

    MVPs

DET - Zetterberg (scored and played well defensively)

PIT - Fleury (he was amazing, a brick wall for the most part)

If Pittsburgh keeps its core team together, I see them winning a SC in the near future.

  12. For MVPs I'd have to agree with Daisy and say Fleury for Pens (without him they wouldn't have made it past game 5) and Zetterberg for Wings(for obvious reasons). Never had my heart beat so fast in my life. Props to Pitt. but the better team won here.

  13. My opinion I think Osgood should have gotten it for the Red Wings and Fleury for the Penguins

  14. Yea congrats to Wings fans. Fleury had a great game but Osgood had a better one. As for MVP for the Wings Zetterburg or Osgood and for the Pens Fleury or Hossa. Congrats Wings

  15. I was cheering for the Penguins right down to the last seconds, and I almost cried when I saw the looks in the Penguins faces. I have to say though, that Detroit really played well and held it together. Seeing Darren McCarty hold the Cup up was really special because I was always a fan of his when he was here in Calgary.

I have to say the MVP for the Penguins was Fleury, because he was awesome all throughout the playoffs.

For the Red Wings I would say Zetterburg, he played really well and scored the Cup winning goal.

    CONGRATULATIONS!

    DETROIT 2007/2008 STANLEY CUP CHAMPIONS!

Also congratulations to the Penguins on their run thorugh the playoffs, they were awesome!

  16. Osgood would have been a good choice too!!!!!

Crosby definitely for Pens he is young and will get it, maybe next year.

  17. "Red Wings won the series fair and square."

Bulls.hit, the Wings had to overcome adversary every minute of every game. Detroit was called for penalties that did NOT exist in every game and even had goals disallowed.

Gary Bettman and his chronies (the linesmen) made sure to penalize Detroit every time they could possibly do it. Pittsburgh was supposed to win this game and Detroit pulled it off.

This series should have been a sweep but Bettman wanted to make more money to buy his half twin step niece another porsche.

  18. I HATE THE REDWINGS

  19. I'm a Stars fan, so I was pulling for the Penguins mostly because of that, but also because I think they have a great story with Mario Lemieux saving the team and such. I'm impressed how gracious the fans are after losing the Cup. You should be proud... it was a hard fought series.

    Congrats Red Wings.

  20. For the Penguins, Fleury and for the Redwings, Zetterberg.

Congratulations to the Redwings, what an awesome series.

They were all hitting hard tonight, Fleury and Osgood even took a couple of shots while attempting to play the puck.

  21. was an entertaining series and one i wont forget its just too bad the pens didnt pull it off, but there is next season.  id say the mvps are as followed... Fleury for the Pens and you really cant pinpoint one Wing player to stand out from the rest so I would give it to the defensivemen.

  22. I LOVE THE REDWINGS!!!!! THEY JUST MADE ME SO HAPPY RIGHT NOW!!!!

But the Penguins did put up a good fight, especially in Game 5(It was all about Fleury then)

  23. Almost the same question as mine!

Fleury for the Pens...and Zetterberg for the Wings.
