Conklin better than Osgood?

Question

True, Conklin only had 1 really good year and 1 solid year, but overall, I can't see Osgood being any better than what he is. He's so overrated, and so was Hasek. The team only let them see about 18 shots a game.

Hasek was on Detroit with Osgood so they would have to veteran goalies to go to in the playoffs.  The only reason Hasek was the official starter was because of his history, and the fact that he is not a good backup.  He is too pouty.  Of course Hasek isn't as good as he used to be, no one says he is.  As far as Osgood goes, you can't be overrated if their is really no one overly praising you.  All I've ever seen is "Is Osgood the worst goalie ever to win the Cup"??

OSGOOD IS THE REAL DEAL.  If you think Osgood isn't as good as Conklin, then you really didn't see Osgood this year.  I would take Osgood on this Wings team over EVERY other goalie in the league.  He is so level headed, and doesn't let S**t get to him.  He doesn't care what people say, and just plays.  The Wings would not have won the Cup without him.

Conklins been an under-achiever for most of his career, save for 30 -40 games with the Penguins last season - he is still very unproven...There is a reason he is making $750k...

You're saying Hasek, the 2 time Hart Trophy winner, 6 time Vezina Trophy winner, and 5 time All-Star game goalie is over rated? Nooooo, you must be talking about some other Hasek.

I like Ty, but every time he sat a game, he sucked in his next game back. When he was playing every day, he was great. I don't know if this will help at all if they expect to use him for a back up. If he's going to be a sieve in an occasional appearance, he might not last long in Detroit,

So, you say the goalie isnt good, unless he sees 30 shots or more?  Its suck a stupid analogy, because if your team is good, you shouldnt  be facing a ton of shots. How is Osgood overrated?? He is one of the most ridiculed goalies in the game!!!! Oh, and Hasek, all those Vezinas on an average Sabres team,.  yeah, what a fraud he is... Quit being a hater... You want to talek about overrated, let look at Luongo and Kiprusoff.. Flashy numbers but cant win anything. They do enough to keep their teams in the game, but not enough to win.

BUT he did stop those 16 shots out of 18.I'll take that over a guy who saves 32 out of 37 shots anyday.He might be overated but he does have 3 rings(2 starting),4 All Star game appearances,2 times Jennings trophy winner and a career record of 363-195.

Its not his fault he saw 18 shots a game.Maybe he'll tell Lidstrom to let more shots come in so he wont be considered overated anymore.Nobody considered Brodeur (during the clutching and grabbing days) overated and he saw the same amount of shots and the same amount of rings Osgood has.

Amazing what a good playoff run will do.  You can go from being underrated to being overrated just by winning the Cup.

Conklin has shown that he can fill in if needed but he hasn't shown me that he is better than Ozzie.

Osgood is a winner anyway you look at it. Why belittle a goalie because he only gets a few shots. Bottom line is he stops the ones he has too.

it's possible.  Conklin had the best saver percentage in the league last year, but Osgood's record both last season and in seasons past has bee far better the Conklin's.  Now their on the same team facing the same amount of shots and such will see for sure.  Either way it was a GREAT signing by the Wings.

Ozzie will play 50. Conklin will play 30. after Ozzie taking the wings to the cup this year, i cant see Detroit demoting him. we'll see how well Conklin plays with the Dynamic D detroit has. he might have a career year.

In a way it's the lower number of shots that makes him good. It's difficult to switch from inactivity to full bore goalie as quickly as he can. He was good when he needed to be. Many goalies can't deal w/ the inactivity and them turn it on when needed. Ozzie may not be the best goalie in the league, but he shines when needed. He did make some amazing saves during the playoffs and finals.

I think Conklin will be a good solid 2nd goalie. I actually hope Babcock continues w/ the goalie rotation. I think it kept Ozzie fresher for the playoffs. I don't think Ozzie has a big ego to worry about.

Hasek may have faded in the last couple of years, but he was definitely not overrated. In his prime he was one of the best. He revolutionized the position.

Osgood had a breakout year with the Pens. But hes very streaky, when Fleury came back he wasnt so hot anymore.Osgood is way better Conklin just has his moments i think. But being a Fleury fan Conklin wasnt the most loved =P

Ozzy is second to only Brodeur in career win, shut outs, and stanley cup rings among active goaltenders.  Yes, he has played on good teams and he doesn't see many shots on goal these days, that shouldn't be a reason to criticize him though.  Conklin has played 109 NHL games and hes 32 years old.  He cant be that good, otherwise he would have played a lot more games than that.  He had a good run last year, but that's about all he has done in his entire career.  That's certainly not enough to rank him over Ozzy.

It takes a certain type of goalie to stop the puck at key times of the game.  Detriot goalies will always face an average of 15-20 shots per game.  Leaving alot of time just standing their getting stiff, unfocused, and losing concentrion.  Osgood as shown that he can stop the puck at key moments and wont lose focus even if all the action is in the other end.  Time will only tell if Conklin can be this type of goalie.  For now Osgood is far better in net for the red wings because of his proven track record, but conklin will get his opportunities.  Keep in mind that the only job of the goalie is to keep his team in it, not neccessarily steal a game away, and that is exactly what u will get from osgood night in night out.

It doesn't matter who you put in net for the WIngs.  The system they play makes every goalie look good.

Conklin and Osgood are probably fairly close in skill level now, but Osgood was better in his prime.
