Question:

Connect laptop to ADSL modem with ethernet cable?

My laptop wont recognise my new ADSL modem. It has to connect by an ethernet cable. (My old modem connected with a USB cable) I'm really clueless with this stuff. Do I need to buy something extra before it will work? Please dont talk about going wireless because its too complicated for me. I just want to get this running first. Thanks :)

  1. I have a web page with pictures on how to connect routers.

It is for the Linksys Wireless router and Dlink but there is a picture of a ADSL modem that should help.

You connect the ADSL Modem Ethernet port to the Ethernet port on your laptop.

Go to Control Panel > Network  and check the LAN connection is enabled.

  2. Go to network connections and create a new connection via Ethernet T10/100 port

  3. It depends on the laptop and modem.

With mine, I just connected an ethernet cable to the ethernet ports of the laptop and modem and it "just worked".
