connected a light with 2 white & 2 black wires to a box with 1black 1white & 1red, capped the red, the ceiling box has two switches to it, and neither switch will work...was wondering do I need to do something with the red wire? Also there use to be a ceiling fan in on the box.

  1. Im going to assume that you had a three way light switch (that is a system where you have two switches usually at either end of a hallway or at the the entrance to a room and somewhere else where it enters another room) so you could turn the lights off and on from 2 different switches.  If this is so then the red wire should not be capped and the way it should work is 2 three way switches, usually the red and black wires go between the switches with no interuption and they are hooked to the brass or silver screws on the switches.  Where the power comes into the switch you will have a black and white wire from your breaker panel or pwr source.  the black would go to the black s***w and the white would connect to the white.  at the light you would hook the white to one side of your light and the white coming up from the other switch would hook to the other light wire.  In your case the whites from your light to one white from the switch and the blacks to the white to the other switch.  At the other switch you would hook the black and red up as in the first switch and the white would go to the dark s***w on that switch.
