Question:

Connected to router but not internet - Vista?

When I cmd>ipconfig it says the following:

Media State….Disconnected

Connection Specific DNS suffix . : [Nothing Appears]

IP Address [Doesn’t Show]

Subnet Mask [Doesn’t Show]

Default Gateway [Doesn’t Show]

What can I do to fix this? Any ideas?

  1. Plug in the Ethernet cable into the computer.


  2. another good reason to upgrade to msoft vista

    you may find some help here for your router

    you might want unplug both the router and modem and let them reset

    if not unplug modem , reset the router by holding a pin in the reset switch in the back

    set up the router again from scratch

    with cable you sometimes have to tell it reset the dns to reset and restore  ( some term something like that)

    with dsl you sometimes have to tell it to connect the first time - guess that it is a security measure

    you will have to hunt around for those terms in the web based control center interface

    then plug in both , reboot and go
