Connecticut Huskies’ Michael Box out with injury
Connecticut Huskies quarterback Michael Box has been ruled out of his team’s game against the West Virginia Mountaineers on Friday 29 October.
Box was ruled out on Thursday 28 October after it was determined the youngster had still not fully recovered from a head injury he suffered during his club’s 26-0 loss to Louisville in week eight. Box struggled throughout the contest and was pulled in the
fourth quarter. When the freshman reached the sidelines he told head coach Randy Edsall he had gotten his ‘bell rung’.
The club practiced with Box all week in the hopes that he would be able to make the start against West Virginia. However, it became clear late in the week that he had not fully recovered.
The Huskies have struggled a great deal at the quarterback position and Box was their last option, as the Georgia native is a red shirt freshman this season.
Although Box was replaced by junior Cody Endres in the game against Louisville, the club is likely to go with senior Zach Frazer. Frazer started the first four games of the season, but was benched after being deemed ineffective.
UConn has had a tumultuous season and now sits at 3-4 with a 0-2 record against conference opponents. Their poor record currently places them at the bottom of the Big East Conference with five games remaining on their schedule.
The club’s lack of success can be attributed to their struggles throwing the football, as they currently rank 102nd in the nation, averaging 162.4 yards per game. Conversely, the squad’s rushing offence and defence has been fairly successful.
Frazer has amassed 605 yards and two touchdown passes this season, while Endres has notched 471 yards and five touchdown passes. Meanwhile, Box was only able to tally 65 yards with zero touchdowns this season.
