Connecticut Huskies and Florida State Seminoles prevail – NCAA Basketball Roundup November 24
Only two took place in NCAA basketball top-25 on November 24, 2011. Here is a brief review of the games:
Connecticut Huskies 73 - North Carolina-Asheville Bulldogs 63
Shabazz Napier and Jeremy Lamb racked up 23 points each as Connecticut Huskies recoded their 16th consecutive victory with a 73-63 win over the - North Carolina-Asheville Bulldogs in the first round of the Battle 4 Atlantis
at Atlantis Resort.
Napier also contributed seven assists, three steals and two rebounds while Lamb grabbed six rebounds in the victory.
Matt Dickey headed North Carolina with 18 points on 6 for 13 shooting from the field. Jeremy Atkinson added points, nine rebounds and two steals while J.P. Primm with 10 points, seven assists and two steals for the Huskies.
Connecticut shot 25 for 47 (53.2 percent) from the floor while the Bulldogs were just 23 for 56 (41.1 percent).
The Huskies opened the game on a 6-0 run and carried a 16-3 lead early in the first half. The Bulldogs made a marginal comeback and trimmed the deficit to eight with 1:16 remaining in the opening half. However, Napier hit a three-pointer
at the buzzer to push Connecticut’s lead to 39-28 at halftime.
The defending national champion widened their lead back to double figures early in the second half but Chris Stephenson hit a shot from downtown to make it a seven-point contest with 17:12 left. Napier then drove to the rim and
Lamb made 2 of 2 free throws to 47-36 and the Bulldogs never closed the gap any closer than nine points for rest of the period.
Florida State Seminoles 73 - Massachusetts Minutemen 53
Michael Snaer registered a double-double with a game-high 18 points and 10 rebounds as Florida State Seminoles beat Massachusetts Minutemen 73-53 in the first round of the Battle 4 Atlantis tournament at Atlantis Resort, Nassau.
The Seminoles are now 5-0 for the second straight season.
Luke Loucks had 12 points, four steals, three rebounds and three assists while sophomore forward Okaro White finished with a game-best 11 rebounds and 11 points in the victory.
Minutemen’s forward Raphiael Putney chipped in with a team-high 11 points and three rebounds. Max Esho came off the bench with 10 points, five rebounds and two steals in the defeat.
Massachusetts shot just 19 for 68 (27.9 percent) from the field and 2 for 23 from downtown. Seminoles also could not find their rhythm in the game and ended with 20 for 57 from the floor. However, Florida State out-rebounded Massachusetts
47-35.
Florida State scored the scored the first seven points of the game capped by Snaer’s brilliant shot from downtown. Minutemen turned it on and converted the initial deficit into a 21-10 lead with 4:35 remaining in the first half
of the game. The Seminoles then reeled off a 16-4 run for a 33-25 lead into the second half.
Florida State stretched their lead to 17-point, 43-26, early in the second and did not trail for rest of the game.
