Erin Thorn contributed 14 points and four assists and Cathrine Kraayeveld had 10 points for Chicago Sky, who lost their second game in a row.
San Antonio Silver Stars scored the first four points of the opening period and stretched their lead to five points, 15-10, with 02:21 to go. Chicago however went on a 6-0 run in the ensuing passage to take a 16-15 lead at the
end of the first quarter.
The Silver Stars came out strong in the second quarter and raced to a 26-22 lead early in the quarter. Sky hung tough though and did not allow the Silver Stars to pull away. Thorn’s running jumper at 03:55 mark again tied the game
at 28. Young scored the next four points to again put San Antonio ahead by 32-28, but Sky responded again and reeled off a 9-2 run to take a 37-34 lead at halftime.
Both teams scored 19 points in the third quarter and Sky maintained their three-point lead. Trailing by 66-64 with 04:57 to go in the fourth quarter, the Silver Stars turned it on and went on a 12-3 run to take a 76-69 lead and
never trailed again.
Connecticut Sun 79 - Los Angeles Sparks 76
Tina Charles erupted with 22 points and a career-high 23 rebounds as Connecticut Sun squeaked past the Los Angeles Sparks 79-76 at Mohegan Sun Arena.
Renee Montgomery added 17 points and five assists while Asjha Jones and Kara Lawson added 16 points apiece for Connecticut, who limited the Sparks to 37.3 percent from the field.
Kristi Toliver led the short-handed Sparks with 19 points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals. DeLisha Milton had 13 points, eight rebounds, five assists and two blocks while forward centre LaToya Pringle finished with
11 points and four rebounds. The Sparks lost their fourth consecutive road game.
Connecticut took a 10-3 lead early in the first quarter and maintained a ten-point lead, 23-13, heading into the second. Sun got more lobs to the rim early in the second quarter and ballooned their lead to 13 points, 28-15.
Toliver then hit a three-pointer and Pringle followed her with a jumper to cut the deficit to eight points. The surge continued and with 02:15 to go in the first half, the score became 38-34. Los Angeles finally took the lead on
an 8-3 run in the last two minutes of the period and carried a 42-41 advantage into the locker room.
Connecticut limited visiting team to 17 points in the third quarter, taking a 60-59 lead into the fourth. The game hung in balance throughout the final frame, with neither team managing to break away. With the scores at 77-74,
advantage Sun and with 25 second to go Lacy’s lay-up made it a one-point contest, 76-77. However, Montgomery hit a pair of free throws in the closing seconds to seal the victory for Connecticut.
