Kara Lawson steps up in the fourth quarter to ensure Connecticut Sun seal a win against Indiana Fever.....
On Wednesday night, led by the 23 point effort from Kara Lawson, the Connecticut Sun went past Indiana Fever 73-67 at the Mohegan Sun Arena.
However, the win did not come without holding off a late charge from Indiana. Lawson was on fire late in the game and scored 9 of her total points in the final 4 minutes.
“I think we're just a little disappointed,” Lawson said. “They got it down to a two possession game in the fourth, and we talked about at the start of the fourth about not letting up and putting the game away.”
“We won. That's probably about all you can say good about the game.”
Tina Charles notched up a double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds while Allison Hightower also provided equal support by contributing 10 points.
On the other hand, Katie Douglas led the scoring for Indiana with 19 points with 16 of them coming in the first half while Tamika Catchings mustered 15 points and 5 rebounds. Both sat out the final quarter, but despite their star
players being on the bench, Indiana almost completed an astonishing come from behind win.
One of the main reasons for Connecticut emerging victorious was the double figure lead they had built up in the first half and much of its credit can be given to their overall shooting percentage of 47.5%.
However, Connecticut did not dominate proceedings from the get go as the scores remained close until 4:40 remaining in the first quarter. It was only after then when the Sun’s started pulling away and managed a 17-13 advantage
after the first 10 minutes.
A 9-3 run to start the second quarter saw their lead get into double figures which they were able to sustain until the break.
The start of the third quarter saw Connecticut burst out with a 6-0 run and by the time three quarters of playing time had been played out, they had managed their way to a score line of 57-44.
However, Connecticut got complacent in the final quarter as they took their foot off the pedal a little bit. This allowed Indiana to crawl their way back into contention and a 7-3 run since the 3:15 mark made the difference only
5.
But Connecticut had Lawson to look to in a time of despair and the 31 year old did not disappoint as she stepped up to make a triple and hammered the final nail into the coffin to ensure victory for her team.
