Connecticut Sun 79 - Washington Mystics 48
On Sunday night at Verizon Center, Tina Charles registered a double-double with 24 points and 15 rebounds as Connecticut Sun downed Washington Mystics 79-48 for their second straight win. It was Charles’ 21st double-double
so far in this season. Charles ended the game on 10 for 14 shooting from the field.
Mystics coach Trudi Lacey acknowledged the brilliant performance of Charles and said, “Tina Charles is certainly a forced to be reckoned with.” “She is a legitimate candidate for MVP. I would definitely say that.”
Forward Asjha Jones scored with 16 points and grabbed 10 rebounds while Danielle McCray tallied 15 points on 5 for 9 shooting from the floor.
Monique Currie the Mystics with 13 points, six rebounds and three steals. . Crystal Langhorne added 10 points while Kerri Gardin pulled down 10 rebounds in Washington’s second consecutive defeat.
Sun shot 40.8 percent from the floor and 100 percent from free throw line while the Mystics shot only 26.9 percent from the field and 71.4 percent from the line.
Connecticut opened the first quarter on an 11-0 run and carried a 21-12 lead into the second. Sun limited Washington to 12 points in the second quarter and stretched their lead to 42-24 at halftime. Connecticut maintained their
double-digit lead in the second half of the game and walked away with another brilliant victory.
Indiana Fever 88 - Chicago Sky 80
Tamika Catchings and Katie Douglas punctuated 17 points apiece as Indiana Fever beat Chicago Sky 88-80 at Allstate Arena, snapping their three-game losing streak. It was second straight loss for the Sky.
Erin Phillips had 16 points and two steals while Jessica Davenport came off the bench with 14 points in the victory.
Epiphanny Prince led Chicago with 21 points, six assists and two steals. Sylvia Fowles added 15 points, nine rebounds and three assists while Tamera Young finished with 12 points in the loss.
Fever shot 54.5 percent from the field, including 75 percent from three-point range and 86.4 percent from free throw line. Sky shot only 50 percent from the floor, including 33.3 percent beyond the arc and 66.7 percent from the
line.
Chicago held a 26-25 lead after first quarter but Indiana limited them to 23 points in the second quarter and converted a point deficit into a 51-49 lead at halftime. Fever outscored Sky 21-15 in the third period and stretched
their lead to eight points, 72-64, heading into the last quarter.
Chicago made a terrific comeback in the fourth quarter and trimmed Indiana’s lead to one, 79-78, with 04:15 remaining in the game. Fever responded with six unanswered points to push their lead to 85-78 and did not trail for rest
of the period.
