Connecticut Sun’s centre Tina Charles Named ‘WNBA Eastern Conference Player of the Month’ – Part 2
Game high 26 points against the Mystics
Tina Charles recorded her first double-double with a game high 26 points and 10 rebounds as Connecticut Sun defeated the Washington Mystics (79-71) for the second time this season. Charles shot 11 for 17 from the field that night,
but fell just one point short of tying her career high.
Season-high 31 points – Revenge exacted against Sky
Just ten days after her poorest performance of the season against Chicago Sky, Charles bounced back with a career high 31 points and 13 rebounds as Connecticut crushed Sky with an 83-68 margin. The 22-year-old scored 11 of her
points in the final quarter and ended with 13 of 22 from the field.
22-point spurt in the sixth game
In the very next game, the Suns were again pitched up against Chicago Sky. Charles registered yet another double-double, her third of the season, with 22 points and 13 rebounds. This time though her effort fell just short of propelling
Connecticut to victory as Chicago squeaked out a 107-101 victory.
12 points by Charles – Connecticut lose to Indiana
Charles, who entered the seventh game of the second with an average of 26 points per game, was held to just 12 points as Connecticut lost its second consecutive game with a 75-70 defeat to Indiana Fever. Although, she failed from
the field, she did assert herself on the glass with a team best 11 rebounds two blocks.
Raid in the paint - Career-high 23 rebounds in eighth game
Staring at a potential three game losing streak, Connecticut needed somebody to up the ante and they found that somebody in Tina Charles. The second year centre exploded with 22 points on an 11-of-21 shooting and clutched a career-high
23 rebounds to single handedly lead her team to a 79-76 victory over the Los Angeles Sparks.
It was Charles’ second 20-point, 20-rebound game of her brief two-year career. The 6ft 4in star also had 23 rebounds on June 25, 2010 against Phoenix Mercury, one rebound shy of tying the record of Chamique Holdsclaw - a six-time
WNBA All-Star, who is the only player in league’s history to have notched 24 boards.
The reigning WNBA Rookie of the Year pulled down 16 of her rebounds in the second half, matching WNBA record for rebounds in one-half by Janell Burse, who recently played as a centre for Seattle Storm. Burse also grabbed 16 rebounds
in the first half of a game on May 23, 2007.
