A friend told me that there was some new (?) state law says that kindergartners must be dropped off at their driveway by their school bus, but I can't seem to find anything about it. Does anyone know if this is true?

  1. It would be a state law relating to the health, safety, and welfare of the citizens of the state.  It would be constitutional unless the state legislature could not put forth any ration basis on how the law effected any legitimate state interest.  Given the protection of our children is traditionally a legitimate state interest I'm pretty sure that it would pass muster.

What state did this occur in?

(There is a similar rule in the community, (although I'm not sure about the state) in which I live)).

    I live in Illinois.

  2. I am not so sure it is a law as much as a school policy, but yes, kindergartners much be dropped off in front of their home and a parent (or responsible adult the parent has approved of and let the school know about) must be there.  If now one is there, the bus company has the right to return your child to the school and have you come and pick them up.

  3. Depends on where you live....
