Question:

Connecting Sky+ with magic eye and Freeview to same TV without losing functionality?

I currently have a Magic Eye connected to my Sky+ so that we can watch tv in a second room. However, for those annoying times when we want to watch a third program (as we are already recording 2) we want to reinstate our freeview box.

Currently the house aerial is loose int he loft and not conencted to anything and the two house sockects are simply connected together - when we want to use freeview we have to go into the loft and unplug the sockets and plug in the house aerial which is a pain to say the least....

Is there any way we can have the magic eye working and the freeview but without losing functionality (I can get both to work by using a booster but then cannot change the sky channels)?

I'd really rather not run another cable.......

  1. If your TV has two SCART sockets, then there is no problem. Just connect your freeview to the spare socket.

You can then switch between Sky and Freeview using the AV button on your remote. Your video recorder/player can be connected to whichever box you wish, using its spare SCART socket.

Switching on your player will normally grab that particular SCART, over riding the receiver box.

  2. The best solution is always another cable but as you would rather not then i can advise something that might help....

If i am correct the current setup is--

2 Sky cables from dish to Sky+...

Second RF out to loft which then connected to the upstairs...

Try a local aerial supplies shop and ask for a Sat/TV dip-lexer for the loft and also matching Sat/TV diplexed plate...

Connect 1 sky cable to the dip-lexer in loft then aerial and connect the cable you cut and used down to the box.

This sends the sat and aerial to your box using the one cable.

In the downstairs room put the sat cable you cut in the loft into the plate and on the front you ave a aerial and sat out.

Connect them as you would to send aerial to sky box and then signal will travel back up the second RF.
