  1. First of all, are you trying to connect to the modem using a LAN cable or you are trying to connect wireless?

If you are trying to connect using wireless, you must be having a wireless router connected to your modem. The wireless key is the one setup in wireless router. If you do not remember the key, you can log into the configuration settings of your wireless router and change the key there. If you are not able to access the setting of your wireless router, every router provides a reset button. Press and hold the reset button for 5 seconds and then try to connect. After reset the wireless router allows unsecured connections without asking for any security key.

If you are not using wireless router and directly connecting your laptop to the modem using LAN cable, your ISP (Internet Service Provider) might ask login/password for authentication.

  2. there should be a reset button on your modem to default to factory settings

  3. There are at least 5 major types of password - your modem wants one, and you may be using another.  Unless you can connect to the modem with an ethernet cable and look to see what type it's using, try WEP.  If that doesn't work, try WPA-Personal/TKIP.  Then WPA-Personal/AES.  then WPA2/Personal/TKIP.  then WPA2-Personal/AES.

Also, is the password you have the modem password or the wireless password.  They're different.  You use the modem password to connect to the little web site in the modem to change things in it.  You use the wireless password to make wireless connections to the modem.  (Whoever set it up - usually your provider - would probably be able to give you all that information.  they normally set all their modems with the same passwords - a terrible idea.  You should change both of them as soon as they leave after installation.)

  4. go start then network places and they should be a 2digit'ss you have to enter depending on service provider insert the disk then link it to your modem with the network code

  5. Im not sure how you find it, but you need the wep key which is a series of numbers.
