Connecting a dvi-d cable from dvi-i graphics card...

Question

is it possible using dvi-d cable from dvi-i port of the graphics card to dvi port of the lcd monitor? the graphics card has two output, one is vga and the other is dvi. they say dvi has good image quality than vga. how would i do it.i tried to connect it and reboot but the lcd does not detect signal. what should i do? my card is ati radeon 9550 256mb 128 bit agpthanks,almer
