Question:

Connecting flight at Narita Airport?

I'm flying from Honolulu to Hiroshima. I have a connecting flight in Narita to Seoul. I only have 70 minutes from when the flight arrives and when the next flight departs. Is this enough time between flights? Do I need to go to the baggage claim to get my checked luggage?

  1. You will have to go through customs in Narita. The normal connecting time is 2 hours. If you booked this via the airline and they had that listed - then they call that a legal connection and they would reprotect you on the next flight if you miss it. However, if you booked your flights leg to leg then you might have a problem if you miss it

  2. You are flying from Honolulu to Hiroshima? Is that a typo?

70 minutes from the time your flight lands in Hiroshima and you must catch your flight at Narita? A typo I think. :)

Literally millions of tourists follow the same route you are following each year. I have followed the route you are going to follow (I used to live in Honolulu) at least 50 times on my way to Korea, Thailand and Taiwan. 70 minutes is more than enough time. Trust me, you will be bored waiting.

Your baggage will automatically transfered to Seoul. You will need to claim your luggage in Seoul along with your fellow passengers

All important signs will be in English and English speaking airport and airline personnel will be on hand to assist you. You won't have to speak any Japanese at all. The whole experience is designed to be easy and stress-free.

You won't have any problems. Don't worry.

  3. If this is a connecting flight booked all the way through you do not have to get your luggage it is transferred to the next flight.

You do not have to go through customs since you are not leaving the secure area.

1 hour is a minimum time for a connection.

Depending on your gates and the arrival and departure times being correct, that is you don't get in way later than schedule you can make it.

  4. Let me make sure if you are going to Seoul from Honolulu via Narita. No Hiroshima right?

It it is what you want to say, connectiing time 70 minutes is tight rope ride but still within the allowance.

Check your flight companies have same terminal at Narita for sure because there are 2 terminals. You might need to go switch another terminal  for connecting flight there.

Even if you move to different terminal, you don't need to go through customs. You only go to the baggage claim when you arrived at Seoul one time and finally. The possibility of your luggage missed to be on time to connecting flight still remains.

If possible, I recommend 90minutes or  longer connecting time for safety.

If  Hiroshima is correct, the story is totally different and chaos. No service between Hiroshima and Narita within 70 minutes is possible and available.
