Question:

Connecting flights in singapore?

I recently brought a cheap flight to singapore with Jetstar over the internet and I want to buy a connecting flight to Europe, however this is through a different carrier and website. Will I have to leave the airport and clear customs or do I just obtain a boarding pass and will my luggage go straight to my final destination.

  1. Hi

Is your connecting flight booked for departure from Singapore airport, and not a code-sharing flight with Jetstar? If this is the case, you'll unfortunately have to clear customs, collect your luggage and check in to your connecting flight with the separate airline. (I'm assuming you have NOT booked one of those code-sharing flights where 2 or more airlines share planes on the same route.)

There is at the moment no arrangement for non-code-sharing airlines to transfer luggage from one airline to another. Your flight from Singapore will be deemed as a new flight and you'll have to check in like anyone else flying off from Singapore.

Do note however that if you intend to use the transit hotel while waiting for the connecting flight, you'll only clear customs after your stay at the transit hotel, not before.

  2. It's best if you check with your airline about this. It doesn't make sense for you to clear customs in Singapore, then check in and go into the transit area all over again. But there might be some immigration procedures you must follow so check with the airline or airport, they'll definitely know.
