Connecting laptop to HDTV with HDMI??

ok so i have a DELL inspiron with a VGA, Svideo, and HDMI output...so HDMI is best right?

but all the hdmi cable's i've seen are audio?? does that mean there will be no image?

  1. All HDMI cables are the same, ignore what it says on the cable. It's just that some devices dont carry audio aswell as picture at the same time (this has nothing to do with the cable), in which case the audio out from the TV is needed.

    Any HDMI cable will suffice.


  2. check the back of the package to see if it out puts at 1080p 720p ect. whatever and if it does then it should work. to make it work with the laptop plug it in and hold Fn and f8 at the same time

  3. HDMI can carry  both HD video and digital surround audio.  

    However, your laptop may only output a video signal on its HDMI port.  If that's the case, you'll need to connect a separate audio cable from your laptop to your TV.  This  can simply be an optical audio cable, or a mini-plug to stereo RCA plug cable (available at any Radio Shack or audio cable accessories area in a store.)

    Again, your laptop's manual should have the details.
