Question:

Connecting mind and machine?

If someone found a way to make a machine move based on what the person was feeling or thinking, would you be uncomfortable?

Would the U.S. government be interested in the person's work if it became a reality?

I just want to learn on what to avoid.

  1. These machines are being created.  The major use of these machines is to provide useful functions for people who are handicapped.  For example, for a quadriplegic a machine with a robot arm and a brain sensor would give him a useful arm.

I assume that much of this research is funded by the National Institutes of Health.

Don't worry about avoiding these machines.  Worry more about having to need one.

  2. We already do that, but it usually depends on the thoughts being translated into specific nerve impulses which move fingers to press keys on a keyboard.  It could be more efficient if we could bypass all those stages of translation.  Lots of people and companies and industries would be interested in that.

  3. yeah, I would be somewhat uncomfortable.

the government might be interested. but it all depends. because it is a pretty weird theory to think about.

but I'm sure it will be possible in the near future.

  4. Some one already has, yes the government is interested in this type of work.

It can not be avoided it is an inevitable consequence of evolution.
