Question:

Connection to encrypted wireless router

Hi:
I am trying to connect an ASUS Eee PC 901 with the Linux OS to my D-Link wireless router with WEP encryption enabled. The Eee sees the router no problem but when it tries to connect it constantly gets the "No DHCPOFFERS" status. I have verified the encryption key or password and it seems to correct. I have other PCs and printers connected to this router with that key. I downloaded some helpful hints from your website taking me through step by step in creating a connection using the Network ICON rather than just using the Wireless Network ICON to connect but I still got the same status. I tried connecting to the router using a static IP address (192.168.0.102) rather than DHCP and it seemed happy, the connection was "Enabled" but I couldn't connect to the internet with that configuration. I also wasn't very confident that I set that up cleanly. I was not completely sure what to do with things like the Gateway address, etc.
I also tried re-initializing the Linux OS using F9 on boot up but that didn't help either. I had read that fixed this same issue with some. Is there an incompatibility between the Eee and the D-Link router?
Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated.
Regards,
Jerry Richgels
