Connections confident of Carlton House’s win in Transformers & Rectifiers Summer Mile Stakes at Royal Ascot
Saturday’s Transformers & Rectifiers Summer Mile Stakes revolves around Carlton House, who was a lot better than many of these rivals, when securing the second spot in the 150th Anniversary of Prince of Wales's Stakes. The 4-year-old will definitely be very
hard to beat, if he replicates what he did at this track last month.
His connections are also confident of a positive result, hoping that dropping the colt to a mile will lead to a lot better things. Under Ryan Moore, Sir Michael Stoute’s charge ran brilliantly in his last appearance, keeping himself prominent all the way
through.
He took keen hold early on, but held up in the midfield. He switched left to regain his momentum, and kept increasing his speed as the race progressed. He quickened to challenge So You Think a furlong before the wire. The Queen’s colt was in great position
to take the glory away from the 4-5 favourite, but failed terribly.
He was well beaten inside the final furlong and despite a hard effort, he could not make an impression on Aidan’s O’Brien’s winning runner. As a result, he missed the first prize by two and a quarter lengths.
Carlton House has a very good record in the middle-distance races, as he won the Betfair Brigadier Gerard Stakes at Sandown earlier this season. Bred by Darley, the son of Street Cry showed so much speed on the Newmarket gallops that the connections have
every reason to expect an extra special performance today.
"He's in very good form and Ryan Moore has ridden him in all his starts and I think he's very optimistic this mile will suit him very well," The Queen's racing manager John Warren told At The Races.
He added: "We're still on a learning mission but when he was second to So You Think at Royal Ascot, he gave it a good rattle just over one out and looked very dangerous then. They have always felt this horse has tremendous speed and it's very exciting if
he can be brought back to a mile and it would open up a few more avenues for him.”
