Connor Black excels in Men’s 100m butterfly heats – Speedo Junior National Championships
Connor Black of Cats Aquatic Team excelled in the qualifying rounds Men’s 100m butterfly on third day of the 2012 Speedo Junior National Championships at Indiana University Natatorium in Indianapolis on Wednesday, August 15.
Black faced no trouble from his challengers and sprinted his way towards the finishing wall for fastest qualification spot. He demonstrated his astonishing efforts in the discipline and became a strong contender for gold medal by finishing first in the prelims.
The 17-year-old Black remained prominently ahead of his subsequent swimmer as he touched the wall with a timing of 53.21 seconds.
Black was followed by Santo Condorelli of Bolles School Sharks, who remained 0.83 seconds slower and occupied second best qualifying position with a timing of 54.04 seconds.
Condorelli was chased by Aaron Whitaker of Duneland Swim Club and Matthew Josa of SwimMAC Carolina, who remained involve in a stroke-to-stroke battle throughout the second lap.
Both swimmers were unable to escape each other over the finishing blockade and ended their swims in a joint finish for third position.
They stayed 0.38 seconds slower from Condorelli and touched the wall with a timing 54.42 seconds for third spot.
The duo was followed by Michael Domagala of Asphalt Green Unified Aquatics, who was 0.02 seconds slower and ended fifth in the race by reporting a time of 54.44 seconds.
Sixth fastest qualification spot of the event was obtained by Clark Smith of Denver Swim Academy,  who remained only 0.10 seconds slower from his foregoing finisher and entered the final round with the timing of 54.54 seconds.
Smith was chased by Justin Lynch of Terrapins Swim Team, who was just one stroke away from his and qualified as seventh best finisher of the race by producing a time of 54.75 seconds.
Eighth fastest qualification spot of the event was secured by Andrew Seliskar of CUBU-PV, who remained 0.47 seconds slower and touched the wall with a timing of 55.22 seconds.
In addition, Black was contented with his top qualifying position and told that he is confident of winning gold medal by dominating the final round of the event.
