Connor Jaeger captures Men’s 400m freestyle title – Swimming news
Connor Jaeger of University of Michigan captured gold medal of the Men’s 400m freestyle on fourth day of the 2013 Phillips 66 National Championships & World Championship Trials in Indianapolis on Friday, June 28.
Jaeger received a huge round of applause from the audience for his fastest qualification effort, where he managed to escape the gruelling efforts of Michael McBroom with a difference of only a few microseconds.
With his impeccable efforts in the playoff, he made a considerable improvement in his qualification time as he stepped on the medal rostrum for the title by posting 3 minutes and 45.89 seconds on the board.
Jaeger was chased by Matt McLean of University of Virginia Aquatics, who was only a quarter second apart and secured silver medal of the event by producing an effort of 3 minutes and 46.14 seconds.
McLean was chased by Charlie Houchin of iX3 Sports-NC, who was only 1.02 seconds apart and completed the victory stand by winning bronze medal with the timing of 3 minutes and 47.16 seconds.
Fourth fastest spot of the event was secured by Michael McBroom of The Woodlands-Gu, who stayed tow body lengths away from upsetting his foregoing finisher and hit the wall with an effort of 3 minutes and 49.28 seconds.
The 22-year-old McBroom was traced by Michael Klueh of Club Wolverine-M, who was 2.26 seconds slower and surfaced on the finishing end by producing a time of 3 minutes and 51.54 seconds for fifth place
Similarly, Klueh was followed by Andrew Gemmell of Nation’s Capital, who was 1.15 seconds apart and concluded his swim in a time of 3 minutes and 52.69 seconds for sixth place.
Seventh position of the race was secured by Zane Grothe of Auburn University, who was nearly 4.50 seconds apart and reached the finishing end with the timing of 3 minutes and 57.32 seconds.
Following that, the arena witnessed gruelling efforts of Una NBAC-MD’s Conor Dwyer, who was disqualified from the race due to an improper tumble in the last lap.
Furthermore, Jaeger was excited to have the opportunity of representing opportunity at the forthcoming world championships.
