Connor Jaeger secures Men’s 800m freestyle gold – Swimming news
Connor Jaeger of Club Wolverine-M secured gold medal of Men’s 800m freestyle on day one of the 2013 Arena International Grand Prix at George F. Haines International Swim Center on Thursday, May 30.
The 22-year-old Jaeger crushed hopes of his challengers in the 800m discipline as he astonished the crowd by securing gold medal in a comfortable manner.
Jaeger remained in a lead of 15 metres over his following swimmer as he secured the title with an effort of 7 minutes and 50.14 seconds.
The gold medallist was traced by Mack Horton of Australia, who was almost nine seconds apart and emerged on the finishing end for silver medal with the timing of 7 minutes and 59.64 seconds.
Subsequently, Horton was chased by Ryan Cochrane of Island Swimming, who was just 0.07 seconds slower from his preceding finisher and touched the wall with the timing of 7 minutes and 59.71 seconds for bronze medal.
Alec Page of Island Swimming, who despite his gruelling effort had no chance of reaching the podium, traced the third best finisher. Page remained almost seven seconds slower from the bronze medallist and settled on the wall as fourth fastest swimmer with
an effort of 8 minutes and 06.47 seconds.
Michael Klueh of Club Wolverine-M, who was 0.17 seconds slower from his foregoing finisher and clocked a time of 8 minutes and 06.64 seconds, obtained fifth fastest spot of the race.
Sixth position of the event was obtained by Jeremy Bagshaw of Island Swimming, who was almost half a body length behind and concluded his race in a time of 8 minutes and 07.14 seconds.
Similarly, Bagshaw was trailed by Eric Hedlin of Island Swimming, who was 0.59 seconds behind and finished seventh in the race with the timing of 8 minutes and 07.73 seconds.
Liam Egan of Crimson Aquatics, who was three body lengths slower and touched the wall with an effort of 8 minutes and 10.61 seconds, obtained eighth position of the event.
Furthermore, Jaeger was contented with his unmatchable effort in the race and collected medal after the event.
