Conor O'Shea wants Harlequins to win – Rugby News Update
Conor O’Shea, the 41-year-old Director of Rugby at the Harlequins, wants his side to go out and defeat the Leicester Tigers, to be crowned the champions of the Aviva Premiership, the top tier of rugby in England.
However, the Quins have a formidable task ahead of them, as Leicester are regulars at Twickenham, having reached eight finals in as many years but O’Shea will be feeling pretty confident with the team at his disposal.
The former London Irish fullback, whose career was curtailed in 2000 due to an injury, has Chris Robshaw, the Premiership player of the season, and the newly crowned Rugby Players’ Association Player of the Year, Nick Evans. Both of these can surely guide
the Quins to their first ever title.
He told BBC London, "Whatever happens, we'll learn and become a better side. There'll be a challenge whichever way. If we don't win, we'll regroup. If we win, we'll have to back it up. Because that's what great teams do." And he further added, "We're on
the start of a journey that will be very special for this club."
Leicester will come to the final with the upper hand, having defeated the Quins last month 43-33. However, O’Shea is confident that they can overturn that defeat, as they had their chances in the games and if they take them in the final, then they will surely
win. Having ended the regular 22-game season on top of the League, they will be feeling pretty confident.
"The belief I have in this group of players and where they can go over the years...we will grow organically and trust our own players," O'Shea said.
He further added, "From a playing and supporting point of view you just want them to succeed, because this is a great club."
O’Shea was an Irish international, having played 35 times for his country, starting 34 of those games. He made his debut against Romania at Lansdowne Road, on November 13, 1993, and played his last international match against England at Twickenham, on February
5, 2000.
