My friend Sarah has run away twice and she's planning to do it again. The first time she ran, she was 14 and the guy was 17 almost 18...the second time the guy was an adult. Both times she was not charged, so what if she does it again? What are the penalties if she gets caught?

  1. She could end up spending several years in custody... up to her 21st birthday.

The guys could end up in prison for life.

  2. Yes, most states if not all have laws were if the child continues to run and a report is filed he/she will be sent to juvie....

  3. I guess her parents need to know, so they can put a stop to her c**p.  If she was my child, she'd be getting her hind end beaten.  Go ahead and tell her parents of her plans.

  4. there probably wouldn't be any consequences for her, but the guy could spend up to 20 years in prison for rape, have to register his entire life as a s*x offender and couldn't live near a bus stop, school, or kids.

  5. Running away and ungovernable are status offenses...only charges that a juvenile can receive. If she is charged, (in most jurisdictions) she can be sentenced to a juvenile facility. Not a detention center because these are unique offenses. The judge can order some sort of probation and if the problem persists, the judge will handle it on a case by case basis. This is a "Family In Need Of Services" scenario and a case worker can be appointed.
